THE BEAUTY EXPERT AND HIS TECH-VOC ADVOCACY

THE BEAUTY EXPERT AND HIS TECH-VOC ADVOCACY

Last September 10, it was a privilege to meet and heard the talks of Mr. Antonio “Tony” Galvez, who considered an Institution in the field of Cosmetology. This man, who already successful in his chosen fields extend his ideas and willingness to help those who needs through his School of Cosmetology and his Advocacy for Technical-Vocational Education in the Philippines.

Sir Tony Galvez, beauty guru who started his career in beauty industry during the 70's.

The Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology is located in The Tony Galvez Centrum 124 9th Avenue, near corner P. Tuazon Boulevard, Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.

As we all know, Poverty and Unemployment are some of those problem that this country faced.  Filipinos are considered talented but not recognized and appreciated by this country, so sad but that is reality.  Sir Tony has a bright idea by establishing “The Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology” with a tagline Molder of Tomorrow’s Beauty Professionals. It was establish since 1989 that offers a comprehensive training program that prepares students for exciting and lucrative careers as elite professionals in the beauty industry.

It is the first cosmetology school in the country that offers a truly global training structure, that are intensive and rigorous to students to be globally skilled and competitive.

The Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology has a 3 areas: Lecture Area, Practical Area and the Skin Care Area.

LECTURE AREA. A room used by the Students and Mentors for instruction.

PRACTICAL AREA. This area used by the student where they can practice what they've learned in hair cutting, styling, etc.

The One-on-one Professional Training is a unique tutorial system whereby each student is assigned a tutor or mentor to help him deal with issues that will help him directly with the chosen field of specialization.

SKIN CARE AREA

It aimed to promote the International standard in the hairdressing and cosmetology profession through quality education and training. Even decades ago, staffs in Beauty Salon has an image that has a too much make-up on their face , low-class of words from their mouth, etc., but in this School,  students learned Good English Communication Skills, Math in Cosmetology, Human Relations and Salon Business. So all their graduates are ready to face the world!

After the brief discussion about Cosmetology, I was amazed and admire Sir Tony to his Advocacy. He aims to influence public-policy through his activities such as media campaigns and research.  Not everyone has guts to push a bill for the welfare of others but Sir Tony does.  He already passed a proposed bill to Pasig City Congressman Roman Romulo. It is the creation of Regulatory and Licensing Board for Technical and Vocational Professions. They started it a year ago and they are hoping the progress of the bill.

According to Sir Tony, “We need to professionalized courses from technical courses to be competitive globally” which I agreed because if does happen, it will be first in Asia.  With that, students will encourage to enroll and study. Probably be resulted of less number of Out-of-School youth.  Filipinos who decided to work abroad will be offer a high and competitive rate even they are Carpenter, Plumber or Haircutter because they're already Professionals. If the country are full of professionals, there are big taxes to be collected by the Government and lot of projects to be plan and create.

Sir Tony is also Director/Vice President for Domestic Affairs Committee on Advocacy & Public Relations. (www.tevsaphil.com)

I am fervently hoping that this bill will be push and approved as soon as possible. It will not benefit Mr. Tony alone but for all us, the future generation!
