‘Ma’am Charo’. ‘CSC’. ‘Ate Charo’. These are but some of the ways people within the entertainment industry fondly call Ms. Charo Santos. These honorifics are very much a reflection of the many facets of her luminous persona as an actress, TV host, movie producer, and corporate executive – not to mention wife and mother – and now as the sparkling brand Ambassador of My Diamond.

The story of how she gained a foothold in the world of entertainment is almost like a fairy tale. Growing up in the bucolic island of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Charo was, first and foremost, an unabashed movie fan. On weekends, her doctor father would take his brood downtown to catch the latest local and Hollywood releases. There, she would sit amazed as the moving image and storyline unfold on the big screen. She would also eagerly queue in line just to get the autograph of her favorite stars.

But it would be after graduating cum laude with a Communication Arts degree, and being crowned the Baron Travel Girl in 1976, that Charo would get her foot in the door as production assistant, and subsequently an award-winning debut acting role in Mike de Leon’s acclaimed film “Itim.”

From then on, there was no turning back for the beautiful, smart, and determined lass from Mindoro. Apart from her critically-acclaimed cinematic performances, she is host of the top-rating drama series “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” a successful movie producer, and television executive as CEO of ABS-CBN—the first woman to take the top helm within the network—until her retirement last year. She also marked a triumphant return to film, appearing in Lav Diaz’s “Ang Babeng Humayo,” which bagged the coveted Golden Lion at the 2016 Venice Film Festival which earned her a lengthy standing ovation from audience.

Today Charo’s brilliance still continues to shine like the rare gem that she is. It’s no surprise then that she now assumes the role of My Diamond’s newest brand ambassador, perfectly embodying the brand’s “Choose True Brilliance” spirit, and the finely crafted jewelry pieces that they carry.

Certainly, with all her achievements, Charo Santos is a real woman of substance and the epitome of true brilliance – sparkling, luminous, precious. Just like My Diamond.
