TMC Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Last March 4, 2019, The Medical City celebrates Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month where people from the medical field and friends from the Media were invited. Doctors Dr. Josephine Tolentino /Medical Oncologist, Dr. Jun Ruiz / Gastroenterologist, and Dr. Dionne Sacdalan / Colorectal Surgeon shares their insights about Colorectal awareness.

Also, TMC announced that finally Philhealth Z Package can now be avail in the hospital. Good news because Colorectal Cancer, considered as the 3rd most common cancer can be preventable, treatable and beatable.

All those Philhealth members who has stage 1 to stage 3 Colorectal Cancer can avail the benefits. The patient will undergo a screening first before they will considered on this program. They need to submit pathology/colonic biopsy report.

Who are eligible: Patients with Stage I to III colorectal cancer (TMC’s screening committee shall refer
the patient to the PhilHealth Officer for completion of requirements.)

How do we know they have colorectal cancer: They must have their pathology/colonic biopsy report
with them when they apply.

How do we know they are NOT Stage IV: Stage IV means that the cancer has spread to other organs or parts
of the body. It may also be called advanced or metastatic cancer. To be eligible for this package, patients must
present their chest Xray results and liver ultrasound or CT abdomen results stating NO MASS metastases in
the lungs and liver.
What are the other criteria that will increase the likelihood they will be sponsored by the Philhealth
Z Package:

a) They must have no other uncontrolled illness like uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension.
b) They must be able to walk unassisted, feed themselves, do activities of daily living on their own.
c) They must be willing to meet with their team of doctors and participate in the planning and
payment for their treatment.

What is the commitment of the Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute (APSCI) of The Medical City:
Treatment cost will be minimized and special discounts from the hospital and doctors will be given
without compromising outcomes. The patient will be fully informed of plans for care and will be part
of a Multidisciplinary Team of doctors and allied health professionals.
